Regenerative Medicine by Stem Cells

Regenerative Medicine is the branch of medicine that develops methods to regrow, repair or replace damaged or diseased cells, organs or tissues. Regenerative Medicine includes the generation and use of therapeutic stem cells, tissue engineering and the production of artificial organs.

Every human relies on Stem Cells that help their body to develop and grow into an adult. Stem Cells help build new tissue to the body and replace damaged or worn-out cells, and they also help heal broken bones and cut or burned skin.

Because of the latter, Stem Cells are very important in healing processes and cell renewal.

Stem Cells have basically two main characteristics: the first one is the ability to divide and duplicate their shape in a self-renewal process; and the second one is their capacity to become Specialized Cells, phenomenon known as Differentiation.

Stem Cells research plays a big role in Regenerative Medicine, also spanning many disciplines such as Tissue Engineering, Cellular Therapeutics, Chemical Biology and Developmental Cell Biology.

Nowadays, Regenerative Medicine is advancing rapidly in many health and medicine areas, improving disease diagnosis and prevention of diseases, and helping in the healing process of injuries and illnesses.

When it comes to transplants, Stem Cells replace the cells that are damaged by chemotherapy or a disease, or they even become a way for the donor’s immune system to fight some types of cancer and blood-related diseases, such as Leukemia. These transplants use Adult Stem Cells or Umbilical Cord Stem Cells. Adult Stem Cells can be found in bone marrow, in fat in small amounts, or in most adult tissues.

At Hino’s Medical Center we use this Regenerative Medicine therapy with Stem Cells in our patients, which are able to divide into any of the 220 cell types that make up the human body, thus helping the body heal and regenerate its damaged cells. This type of therapy can be very comfortable for the patient since it can be done by delivering the Stem Cells through blood or right into a specific organ, making the body start repairing its damages after only thirty minutes after the delivery of Stem Cells.

After the main delivery of Stem Cells, the body will heal in approximately a ten-day period, where it will need some extra injections to strengthen this process, depending on the severity of the damage.
